The Undulation Rope

Today let’s chat about the undulation rope:

I’ve been seeing this rope in my gym for a while now. When I was pregnant there was no way I was going to try and lug those things up and down. Since Ella was born I have been doing a lot of different workouts. Many of them tabata style, which I am loving.

One day I got real ambitious and went over to attempt my first workout with 50 feet of rope. Let me tell you, 4 minutes of this was tougher than 20 minutes on an expensive piece of equipment. In fact,  I am hating lengthy cardio these days, so any excuse to  skip out on the elliptical works well for me.

There are a few different lengths and two different sizes to choose from. My gym has both a 1.5” and a 2” thick ropes. The black rope (1.5”) in the first picture is lighter and more manageable for a beginner like me. The rope sizes vary from 25-50 feet in length.

I love using the undulation rope because my upper body, hips and core were burning for days after my workout! I loved it!

My plan was to get a few videos shot of either myself or one of my trainer friends, who has much more experience with the rope, for you guys. He was using the Bosu last week, in my favorite Bosu position (upside down), and I can’t wait to master the movement enough to try that out!

For now you get a tool bag post-workout pic of me. Because I’m freaking sexy when I workout. No. Really though. That’s what bloggers do. This is until I muster up the courage to ask someone to shoot a video of some moves for you. Deal.

I think she looks better than ever since going independent! New and improved ALL around. [no more porno angled BR workouts where Mike goes “WHAT are you watching!!??”]

    You look great laury!! Seriously! Absolutely fabulous!

    These days I’m focusing on more strength. I find that I get winded in cardio very quickly so 25-30 minutes of cardio is great for me. I have been doing Denise Austin videos or walking outside since this weather has been crazy nice! I’ve also been eating really healthy! I am feeling SO good about myself. Thanks for all your help 🙂

      Thank you, lovely. Yes…that happens. It was such a shocker to me when I started getting really winded. It gets better for a little, then when the belly grows and your organs are getting all pressed on, you can’t breath again. At the end though I hated strength training bc of my belly and just did tons of moderate cardio and light weights. Oh and I am SO happy to hear that. It really makes me smile!! You know I’m here anytime 🙂

    Okay, the name “undulation rope” sounds scary. LOL. Looks like a great workout! Love the after-burn.

    I don’t think our gym has the undulation rope, but I have heard about it before and it sure looks like on tough workout!

    Thanks for the scoop on Zuzka! I am thrilled! BodyRock has been less appealing to me without her. I will be checking out her site! I do like the quick-and-done interval workouts that I have learned from BR. If any workout is too lengthy, I am less inclined to follow-through with it. I love my schedule with my teenage kids and all the chasing here and there and spectating their sporting events, but it leaves little time for me to do my “thing”. So HIIT is what works for me. I love the variety of HIIT too! Between you, BodyRock (but will now switch to Zuzka), and what I have learned from Mark Lauren’s book, “You Are Your Own Gym”, I feel like I have great variety for workouts! Have a great day!

      Yes, I love the new and improved Zuzka! I’m not sure what happened with BR but Freddy kinda creeps me out. I’m liking her new videos much better!!! HIIT is an awesome way to get in a great workout with 2 teenagers to keep track of! best of luck and way to go!!!

    Those ropes look hardcore! I’ve seen them online before, but never at a gym. I would love to give them a try. I don’t if it’s because of the ropes, but your looking awesome 😉

    Can I just say that Im pretty sure your blog will ALWAYS and FOREVER be my favorite?? I just adore you. And I can’t believe how awesome you already look post baby. If I didn’t know you had Ella I would think you were never even preggo!
    Ok, weird crushing on you stopping now 😉
    My mother in law just bought a rope like this. She looped it through 2 kettlebells and uses it. Its AWESOME! Im so jealous, seriously she has so many cool fitness things! She has a boxing bag that Im thinking of snatching in the middle of the night…think she’ll notice? 😉
    As for tabata, now that I have my gymboss I do it SO much. Im addicted. I love the I can’t breathe my heart is exploding feeling 🙂

      Your mother in law has all that! She’s awesome! I want to go over in the middle of the night to “borrow it”, hahaha…she won’t notice ha!

      Yes, I am so addicted to my gymboss! Make sure you carry a very tiny pin around with you thought. Like a push pin or very skinny mini paperclip. I find my gymboss needs to be reset at the most inconvenient times (like when I’m ready to start my workout)!

      I think they are pretty affordable too if you have the space in your driveway or garage/yard to do the workouts!

    I really want to try the ropes–my gym has them, so it’s on my list of things to try soon! Now, I can watch the videos and know what the heck to do with them!
