I’ve been watching all of the devastation in Texas with a heavy heart. It is so nice to see everyone come together and want to help. If you want a really easy way to donate text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.00 (thanks, Kfred for the info). I also posted on my Instagram feed about two small businesses that are donating 100% of profits through Labor Day, so if you are on there check that out!
Unfortunately Red Cross Execs don’t know what portion of donations will go directly to hurricane relief. So I made an UPDATE.
A good friend who lives in Louisiana and has been through this type of disaster before, unfortunately, and said that the things people need the MOST are as follows:
- sanitary pads
- support for the food banks
- flash light
- baby wipes
- hair brushes
- kitty litter
- kids clothing
- kids toys/coloring books
- baby formula
She also said that while it is great so many are focusing on Houston, Southeast Texas Food Bank serves an area the end closer to Louisiana where people have been on their rooftops and need our help also.

On that note, I will get to the topic of my post … this week’s Friday Five has a bunch of new things to try, think about, and discuss. It’s a good one … so read on and let me know what you think.

Guys, I am obsessed with this! I’ve been breaking out a little and have an idea as to why (hormonal acne, diet, stress) … and within a day I saw a difference in my face after using it! I found it at Whole Foods on sale and used it morning and night for a few days. Now I use it in the morning, oil cleanse every other night, and use this every other night.

2. Probiotic Water Kefir Flavors
I have talked about The Family Cow and The Kefir Chicks on this blog before, and a thousand times on Instagram! Lately, there has been a new flavor every month and Weezy has been loving it. August was blueberry and I got some insider information that September will be grape (so kid-friendly). I am still loving the turmeric.

3. Grow your lashes, naturally!
Confession. For a couple of month I was getting eyelash extensions last winter. I got a great discount at first, but keeping up with the refills was waaaaaay too much money and they fell out REALLY fast on me. I am thinking because I spend my life in a heated yoga room and am super active?
Anyway.. it destroyed my natural lashes. I tried something not-so-natural at first, but then started using castor oil! You want to use a brush like in my photo, NOT a mascara-type brush. Another tip? Put it on your brows too! I didn’t touch my brows for 6 months, used this, and then got them waxed. I use the castor oil religiously every night (don’t skip!)
Castor oil has been used for hundreds of years all over the world as a remedy to thinning, stunted hair, help eyelashes and brows grow longer and thicker, as well as fight hair loss. Cold-pressed castor oil contains more omega-6 essential fatty acids, vitamin E, as well as many other vitamins and minerals which provide nutrition to hair follicles.

4. My Flo App + Cycle Syncing
Okay so I haven’t had many issues with my hormones in years.
I used birth control from age 18-26. Had an eating disorder from age 14 and arguably well into my 20s.
Back then my periods and hormones were a mess.
Luckily, after a year of trying to have a baby, successfully having a healthy pregnancy (with both kids), things seemed to be even and normal.
Lately, I feel like I have been getting the most awful PMS. My cycle is pretty consistent (except when we had the eclipse which was a crazy situation), and my skin has been getting hormonal acne (on my chin) like I used to get back in my teenage years!
Cycle syncing is when a woman syncs her life around her menstrual cycle, and has been around for centuries.
Most of us know that women’s hormonal cycles go through a 28-Day (ish) period, but did you know that men’s reset every 24 hours? Interesting, right?
Maybe this is why we go through so many more ups and downs with our moods, energy levels, and so on!
Cycle syncing is based on the ideas in the book, Womancode, and it talks about how with life, there are ups and downs, it flows. It is never constant.
As women we get so stuck in thinking that life should always be the same.
We are hard on ourselves and think we should always have energy, feel-good, have our clothing lay perfectly, glow, etc.
Well guess what? It isn’t … and if you are a woman you probably already know this.
I can’t tell you how many friends come to me and tell me that they can’t stand how bloated they get when they ovulate, and how much they crave sugar right before their period. Or how they almost bit their partner’s head off during that time of the month!
I am planning on doing a whole new post on this topic once I have a little more personal experience with cycle syncing!
For now, I’ve been loving this app and how detailed it is with what to expect on each day of my cycle. From exercise recommendations, days I should tap not my creativity, diet tips, choose social + work activities optimized for my weekly brain chemistry, when I should get extra rest, and so on!
All I can say is this is MUCH needed in my life right now!
5. Egyptian Musk!
Alright, so I have been exclusively using Young Living essential oils as perfume for almost 3 years now. It is amazing, and gives me the added benefit of aromatherapy, emotional support, immune support, and so on.
EOs absorb quickly, so I reapply them often, which is all good and I actually really like doing it!
However, I kind of miss having a perfume and holy shit does this smell sexy!
Apparently this was the scent Caroline Kennedy wore according to my girl, Lauryn who talks about Eqyptian Musk all the time. I just had to try it because it is made with essential oils, and I am a sucker for Amazon Prime, and it is super cheap.
I got in the car the other day and my husband went “it smells so good in here” and I was like, “oh, it’s me”
We have such a busy weekend planned! I teach all morning Saturday, have a wedding Saturday afternoon, a birthday party early Sunday afternoon, then a Labor Day party Sunday late afternoon. Monday I work in the morning and then have to get Weezy all ready for FIRST GRADE! Crazy!
