I hope everyone had a great week!
I’ve been working a lot on some blogger/business courses lately in my “free time”… it has actually become quite the obsession. I wish I knew the things I am learning now 8 years ago … all I am going to say is I am grateful for all the ups and downs and all the connections I have made over the years. Whether I have 1,000 people reading or 2, I am INCREDIBLY grateful for each person that takes the time to actually read the work I put into this blog. And I am going to continue to work at it and write with that in mind!
My goal is to help you in any way I can … and honestly, I think over the years I learned more from my readers than anything. Blogging in 2017 is sooooooo different in so many ways.
Anyway, more on that later.
If you have any topics or posts you particularly enjoy hearing about … please let me know so I can keep this blog fresh and valuable experience for you. Because that is what it is all about …. how I can serve you!
On to the Friday 5 …
Have you heard of Brandless? I saw it pop up on Robyn O’brien’s page on Monday and it sounds amazing! They literally just came about on July 11th. They’re based out of San Francisco and Minneapolis and their mission is to bring you affordable products that you use everyday by removing the “brand name.” Cut out supermarkets and traditional marketing, funneling that money instead toward making products that can compete with pricier, name-brand counterparts.
BrandTax™ is the hidden costs you pay for a national brand. We’ve been trained to believe these costs increase quality, but they rarely do. We estimate the average person pays at least 40% more for products of comparable quality as ours. And sometimes up to 370% more for beauty products like face cream. We’re here to eliminate BrandTax™ once and for all.
Our team has benchmarked pricing across five major retailers (in-store and online). With that information, we’ve calculated the average BrandTax™ for each item across our entire everyday essentials selection.
Additionally, they are partnering with Feeding America®, the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief organization, a meal* is donated every time you shop on Brandless.
After browsing their site I noticed most of the products were organic, Non-GMO, fair-trade, and overall environmentally conscious! MUCH cheaper than the stuff you find at Whole Foods!
Would you shop with them?
I use activated charcoal in my homemade mask, but found the powder to be too messy to brush my teeth with. I found this product on Amazon, made in the USA, and have been using it for several weeks now. My teeth definitely look whiter! I also add a drop of orange EO to my toothbrush, then rinse under water a second before adding the toothpaste for an added boost.
Several years ago when I was out of cinnamon I went to Whole Foods to get more, and they were out. I was upset. Then, I saw Vietnamese cinnamon and thought I’d give it a try.
If you haven’t had it you need it asap. It is SO much better than regular cinnamon. I bake muffins with it, add it to my smoothies, and used to put it on top of sweet potatoes with ghee or grass-fed butter.
Did you see my post on taking probiotic pills vs. eating fermented foods?
If you are familiar with this subject you will know that the more diverse the microbiome in your gut is, the healthier you are!
The Family Cow got a new flavor water kefir from The Kefir Chicks this week (if you are ANYWHERE in PA you need to check them out).
Blackberry, and it was REALLY good. I still favor the ginger-turmeric, but this was a nice treat today when it was super hot!
Water Kefir is a fermented, probiotic beverage that has a little bit of a zip to it. It’s made using a culture and contains over 30 different strains of beneficial bacteria and yeasts. Each quart contains billions of probiotics and enzymes that aids the body in digestion and recolonizes the gut with good bacteria.
The Kefir Chicks flavor their Water Kefir with organic and whole fruit juices to make it taste great and to add an additional boost of nutrients!
Their water Kefir is a raw, living food that is dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan and made using non-GMO and organic ingredients.
Lose the “diet” mentality.
Okay, so if you made a lifestyle change and you are doing really great choosing healthy meals … good for you! What happens when you “cave” and have some ice cream, or a couple of beers, or your favorite sandwich.
Do you say “eff it” and throw the whole day away?
Surprisingly SO many people I’ve knowns over the years do!
I had the sandwich, so I may as well have some chocolate …. and a few potato chips … and so on.
Don’t do it.
I say this to my Flowtoxers: NO one is perfect. There is no perfect diet. We all need to live a little.
Healthy lifestyle is all about choices. If you make a choice to eat a piece of pizza, make a choice at your next meal to eat something healthy. THAT, my friends is the mentality you need to make you live healthfully.
This isn’t anything groundbreaking … but I thought I would put that reminder out since I am hearing people tell me they are “really good” or “completely fall off the wagon.”
Try to change your mindset, and it will help you to be successful, long-term.
Have a wonderful weekend!
