Squeezing Kale in my Smoothie

Hey, Chica-la’s!

I LOVED hearing your random answers to my random questions yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚

Last night Michael and I watched The X Factor.Who else watched? There’s something about some of these really talented singers that get me choked up. Sounds silly but it’s so inspiring to me to see people living out their dreams. Simon is much nicer on this show too ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been a busy bee around here. Right now I am working on a post about Ella’s first solid food I have lots to report…lots of fun and interesting stuff!

For now…

ย

ย My latest smoothie obsession is from the farmers market:

What they do is juice kale and apple, then place it in the Vitamix and blend it with blueberries, pineapple and mango. So delish. I didn’t realize he juices the kale..next time I may tell him to just place it all in the Vita, since I don’t mind the grittyness in my smoothie [and to preserve the fiber].

For those of you that were never fans of kale smoothies…

this is a good way to try it if you have a juicer and a blender available ๐Ÿ™‚

ย Lately I have been killing my legs so much that I feel my hammys getting SUPER tight. I’ve decided that I really need to dedicate myself to getting in more yoga in my life. I was loving it before I got pregnant…then by the time I was unable to lye on my belly I just stuck with the prenatal yoga [I had an amazing teacher, but it’s not the same as Vinyasa which was that I loved]. Now I try to do yoga every Saturday but I don’t always get in a full session. My new goal is to get it in twice a week!

One move I AM doing lots of are one legged pistol squats. I am lovingย  all different variations of it…especially doing it on the Bosu ball [while holding on to a bar of course].

Here’s one other variation to try and incorporate into your workout…great for beginners ๐Ÿ™‚

Women’s Health Magazine

Stand with your legs together and bend your right knee 90 degrees so you’re balancing on your left leg (A). As you squat, reach your right arm across your body and try to touch the outside of your left foot with your fingertips (B). Keep your back as straight as possible while reaching. Press back up to start. Complete all reps, then repeat on your right leg. That’s 1 set.

In addition to a baby food post…I am hoping to whip up some goodies using these for you all to try next week ๐Ÿ™‚

^Michael thought they were for decoration :/

What fitness move are you loving lately??

Kale Smoothies…love em’ or hate em’?

What do you think about juicing your kale with apples or another fruit before blending it?

xxoo

I do like kale in my smoothies—and since we grew enough to feed an army this year (and tons of it is frozen), I think I’ll be drinking kale smoothies everyday for the rest of the year! I like the idea of easing into it for people though by juicing first!
I am just doing all the usual workout stuff—the only exciting thing is my yoga teacher training (which I love—and didn’t realize how much work it would be to “talk” students thru a class!). Things I want to try: TRX and the Ugi ball!

You should do a post on freezing kale! Mine goes bad So fast even when I only buy 2 bunches and don’t get a chance to go through it!

Oooh I love the pistol squat! And kale in smoothies –> love that too! I don’t have a juicer but my blender, although not a Vitamix, is still quite a beast so it actually makes it really smooth without any gritty bits. That combo sounds great!

Can’t wait to see the goodies you whip up! And to hear about Ella’s first solid food, I’m curious to know about that!

Fitness move I’m loving lately is anything on the TRX, especially knee tucks and pike ups. Super tough and gets my heart rate up, mountain climbers on that are a beast too ๐Ÿ™‚

Never tried kale in my smoothie before…I should give it a shot!

Love kale smoothies! I prefer them over spinach smoothies because I find them to be less bitter and gritty. Plus kale is usually way cheaper than spinach and stays fresher longer.

And now I want a pumpkin spiced latte, yum!

Fitness move I love: I am still loving the bulgarian split squats – nothing makes my legs burn like those do!

Kale in smoothies — eh, not a fan. Maybe my magic bullet just can’t grind it up enough? I don’t like the texture. I’ll stick with spinach!

Probably not, the Vitamix barely grinds it…I am saying to juice it first to get rid of the grittiness…that’s what the smoothie here is…SO good ๐Ÿ™‚

I watched that show last night… loved the former rehab guy. I am not sure if this show will be a hit, but as someone who doesn’t watch TV, it entertained me for sure!

Simon said it would be a huge hit or a total flop…my husband liked it and he’s the worlds biggest critic so we’ll see!

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Kale smoothie…this will have to be on my “to-do” list!

i don’t think i can do the kale smoothie. i love kale in juices but something about a creamy drink i just cannot handle the bite ;p my fave moves are still including kickboxing. i tried the 630 am class today instead of going after work (ive been so tired lately!) and liked it much better to get it out of the way and feel energized right away. it was worth the 1 hour sleep sacrifice!

You gotta try juicing it first..SO good!!

I need to get back into kickboxing!

Your a genius Laury! I don’t know why I didn’t think of juicing the Kale first. I only use spinach for my green smoothies and was always wary of using kale cause I knew it would cause the kale to be gritty. I’m so going to juice it from now on and add it to my smoothie. Thanks for the idea!! You’re the best ๐Ÿ™‚

Aw, you’re welcome! Make sure you juice it with some apples or something that makes a lot of juice to get it going!

Glad to hear you’re making your own baby food. There is NO POINT to buying it…espi if you have a Vita, or any food proc. Seriously, 2 secs and voila, baby food. And it’s real food, whole food that’s been pureed, nothing added that you dont want in there…have never understood why more women dont make their own!

I haven’t been brave enough to put kale in my smoothie, but I felt that way about spinach until I tried it. Clearly I need to get over my fears ;-P

I also need more yoga in my life…my stretching has been seriously lacking!
