Dry Brushing: A great detox regimen to add to your daily routine!

The skin is the largest organ in your body. The average adult eliminates over one pound of waste acids daily, most of it through the sweat glands. Every day we are exposed to environmental toxins, as well as toxins and chemicals in the products we use. It’s important that we become more mindful of what we put on our skin, as well as how we take care of it. Dry brushing not only helps you to eliminate toxins, it stimulates your lymph system and also helps break down fatty deposits within your body. Some women swear by dry brushing for cellulite reduction (which is defined as toxic deposits of subcutaneous fat material and fibrous tissue).

Detoxification is performed by a number of organs, glands, and transportation systems – including the skin, gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, lymphatic system, and mucous membranes. Brushing your skin for 5 minutes a day from head to toe in quick, circular motions before you jump in the shower gives those systems a little extra help, and it provides other endless health benefits! Not only will dry brushing help break down fatty tissue and eliminate toxins, it cleanses the lymphatic system, strengthens the immune system, stimulates the hormones and oil producing glands, tightens the skin to prevent premature aging, tones the muscles, stimulates circulation, improves the function of the nervous system and helps digestion!

The only tricky part is remembering to do it ;-) I got my dry brush from Whole Foods Market. They are pretty inexpensive. You can also find them on Amazon or other health food stores! I use in before I get into the shower in circular motions around my legs, thighs, arms, stomach, back and near my underarms.
