Friday Five

My sister in law sent me an email last week about the 20 worst drinks in America. My beverages are limited to water, coconut water, kombucha, and various herbal teas for the most part. However, I know there are many that crave some popular beverages on occasion. Do you really know what’s in them all? I will name a few…

5 of the Worst Drinks in America

1. Worst Bottled Tea

SoBe Green Tea

240 calories
0 g fat
61 g sugars

Sugar Equivalent: 4 slices Sara Lee Cherry Pie

2. Worst Soda

Orange Sunkist

320 calories
0 g fat
84 g sugars

Sugar Equivalent: 6 Breyers Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches

I did a post about this soda a while back. Unfortunately Michaels family still buys it….meaning Michael gets the evil eye from me every time he has some at family dinners. All soda is garbage, but this one is particularly bad all around. Not only the nutritional value, but the cancer causing substances in it!

3. Worst Energy Drink

Rockstar Energy Drink (1 can, 16 fl oz)

280 calories
0 g fat
62 g sugars

Sugar Equivalent: 6 Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnuts

4. Worst Lemonade

Auntie Anne’s Wild Cherry Lemonade Mixer

470 calories
0 g fat
110 g sugars
Sugar Equivalent: 11 bowls of Cookie Crisp cereal

5. Worst Frozen Mocha

Così Double Oh! Arctic Mocha

1,210 calories
19 g fat (10 g saturated)
240 g sugars
Sugar Equivalent: 41 Oreo Cookies

These are just 5 out of the 20…you should see the rest of the list! Out of control! Maybe I will include them in a later post, or you can email me and I will forward you the list she gave me! There were a few Starbucks beverages on there for you addicts πŸ˜‰

I’m so happy you all liked the chocolate pudding pie recipe yesterday! I never got to finish topics for the FF last night, but I got this lesson learned:

When blending piping hot soup, always make sure the lid is on tight and place a thick towel over the top.

Yea, I spent all of my night last night submerging my hand and wrist in ice water. It hurt πŸ™

Morgan’s Black Bean soup was amazing though. The good news was I didn’t lose much of it. The clear plastic thingy on the Vitamix wasn’t on tight enough and a bunch spit out on my hand. I was catching up on emails while it was simmering, and I left it on too long to where it was boiling over. P brain me decides to transfer it right away (it was 6:30, had yoga at 7:30 wanted to eat some first) and the explosion happened. Then I never ended up making it to yoga after all πŸ™ It feels a lot better this morning.

This ever happen to anyone?

Why couldn’t I handle the pain? Michael to me :”I am really concerned about your pain threshold, you are going to be in a lot worse pain come a couple weeks.” Oh, thanks for the sympathy, Mike. He did bring me ice at one point when I was lying on the bed with aloe on my hand in front of the pain wailing in pain. Not sure if you are really even supposed to put ice packs on it, but you know men….they try and fix everything all the time. It did feel good though.

Anyway…I am SO SO SO excited for myy shower this weekend!

Sorry for the short Friday 5 list today.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Wow, I can’t believe that I’m shocked how bad those beverages are. It’s been many years that I only drink water or hot tea pretty much but had a couple of those drinks when I was young. I cannot believe how much sugar is in them!!! I’d love to see the rest of the list!

I hope your hand is feeling better and have a wonderful baby shower! I can’t wait to see pictures! πŸ™‚

Laury, I am so sorry to hear about your hand! Burns are no fun at all. Sometimes I worry that I will be a bad mother because I have a high pain threshold and have a hard time sympathizing with children when they get hurt. I don’t mean seriously hurt… but you know, the little things. Maybe it will be different when it’s my own.

I will have to email for that list. I’m curious to know what else is on there. I hate the idea of drinking your calories unless it’s something full of all kinds of healthy stuff. I’ve been drinking flavored water for a few years now and finally kicked the habit when I thought to read the label – it had aspertame in it! What the heck? It’s not that I don’t like water, I just never really crave it so I forget to drink it as much as I should. I might have to get that cool water bottle you were giving away a few weeks ago.

OUCH!!!!! I have totally done that exact same thing! With my Vitamix actually! Hurts so bad, but my pain threshold is not good! haha You know what you need?????? An IMMERSION blender! I had one and it just broke so the last couple of batches of soup I did in the blender and way harder. But it still gets the job done! its on my list of things I need to buy pronto tough. To me…its one of lifes little conveniences! So you liked the soup?! Awesome! So so glad! I can not BELIEVE those beverages!!!! WOWZa! That is crazy. its so good to refresh our memories on how bad they actually are so that we think twice before consuming. πŸ™‚ I am happy to say I dont drink anything off of that list. Not even Starbucks. πŸ™‚
    Have a great weekend love!!!

LOOOOOOVED the soup! Having it again for din tonight πŸ™‚

I am a baby too. So, I guess that means you went with the epi for your babies? I was going to try and not…but just playing it by ear. My mom did natural, no drugs with all 4 of us kids so she is calling me a wuss if I end up asking for the epi. It all freaks me out!

I am happy to say I am not a Starbucks fan, it’s a good thing πŸ™‚

      have a great one, girl!!

      • Reply Morgan

Thats was UP girl (lovin my soup that is! haha) . YES, I had an epi with all three. With my first (Alliyah) I didnt even think about it. I was pretty young, first baby, and just did what they told me to. πŸ™ But it was a really good and really peaceful delivery with her. Like I felt guilty almost, it was SO easy, didnt feel an ounce of pain for most of it, just the beginning and she literally came out in 1 1/2 pushes!! Ok then on to baby #2, still had NO intentions of going natural. Drove myself to the hospital because I was feeling some tightening (2 weeks early) and just wanted to check on things. Told Dave to just stay home with Aliyah because I was SURE it was no big deal and it was 10:30 at night. Got to the hospital, and they told me I was dilated to a 9 !!! I flipped, and begged literally for the epi, and I dont know how I got one but I did. I really now dont know why I did. I had already done the hardest part! But because my water hadnt broken they let me get one still. I was NOT mentally prepared to go natural. Still an easy delivery, with 1 or 2 pushes and that was it. So after experience with Brooklyn (#2) I decided for baby #3 that I would go completely natural considering how easy my labor was with my second. Well, It was one of the most excruciating things I have ever experienced. The contractions were almost too much for me to bear with him for some reason. i was just rocking back and forth in the bed for hours and didnt want to be touched. Then my crazy nurse came in and said “FOCUS! Your goal is to get this baby out of your vagina and into your arms! Focus!!” haha those were her EXACT words to me. As you can imagine Daves eyes were HUGE at this point. haha I was at a 6 at this point and they told me I had about 20 min. left to choose if I wanted an Epi, and so I said yes. And OF COURSE I went from a 6 to a 10 in about 10 mintues., I delivered him 30 minutes later. So I was kind of disappointed that I labored all day and then gave up at the end. I have decided though that if I ever have a fourth I will really really try to go natural. My Mom had 5 all natural and is like your Mom, she says its NOT that bad. I think it is a personal decision and either way, the second you lay eyes on your little baby you will forget it all so quickly! its all very very worth it!!!!!!

Ahhhh, well not I feel a little better, thanks. I am so so so scared of that needle going near my spine! I think a nice, peaceful delivery sounds good though. I still am undecided. Not sure what I’m in for and if I can handle it. If not, I will yell for the anesthesiologist πŸ˜‰

I’d be super scared to pour anything hot in any blender… I’m a wuss. Not sure if I have any good tolerance to pain, but ignore your husband’s comment and just roll with it when the time comes (that is and will be my philosophy on that). =)

oh no, I hate getting burned! but did you know to run a burn in luke warm water? you aren’t supposed to put it in either hot or cold. And aloe is really good for burns!

And when you have your baby, it will hurt but its for a good cause, and its only temporary! πŸ™‚

Sorry to hear about you burning fun! I once worked at a coffee shop and spilt just-brewed coffee all over my hand. I had to wrap my hand in a cold cloth for a good part of the day just to function. It was brutal!

Hope you have a blast at your shower this weekend!!! I’m sure those starbucks drinks are crazy. I am definitely an addict, but if I ever order a drink with sugar or syrup in it (very rare- probably 3 times per year, and they are usually pumpkin spice lattes) I always ask them to cut the amount in half…
