A Fresh Start

Hey, Friends!

I’ve been semi-unplugged since last week and it has been lovely.

Spring arrived early…

Ella and I have been enjoying our daily dose of vitamin D around here…

She gets a kick out of the Canadian geese (?)

The way I heard it was that in the 1970’s Philadelphia mayor, Frank Rizzo brought these creatures to the area after a trip up north. He thought they were the most beautiful birds, and now we have tons of them. My husband is scared to death of them. Ella thinks they’re hilarious.

I felt bad for my boot campers over the weekend when we were surrounded by geese poop outside.

We did more than half the class inside, but it was too gorgeous to NOT have them do a few tabata drills in nature.

If you read my last blog post you know that my computer kind of wonked out on me.

Last week in the middle of cooking dinner Michael said the desktop would not go on. I just said I’d look at it later, I figured it went into sleep mode and he was just being impatient or something as he checked out some March madness stats.

After I got the baby down for the night (<–ha! I wish) I tried went over and the power button would not go on. Nothing, nada, zilch. I had no idea what to do! I checked all the wires and called my brother who’s up at RIT but he didn’t answer. I sent my message out into the universe and had a little help from some friends as to what it may be.

Power source failure.

Little brother agreed. So we went to best buy and I decided I would replace it myself. I figure if I was able to put a crib together myself at 35 weeks pregnant then I could do this. I’m a rockstar like that.

powersourcehppavillion

I had my brother on the phone…we couldn’t skype, but I was able to follow what he was telling me to do. At first opening up a computer is a little intimidating with all those wires, but it was actually fairly easy to replace!

Once I was finished, I plugged it in before screwing anything back on and…

We had light!

Don’t get too excited {like  you really care about any of this}.

There was no picture on the monitor. Bummer. I tried making sure all the wires were in tight enough, nothing. I made sure everything was plugged in that needed to be. Nothing. At this point it was midnight, and Ella was up again. We went to bed and I tried again Friday. I cut the crap out of my fingers {the inside of your computer is super sharp!}, but I’ll spare you the bloody pictures -not many bloggers would extended that same courtesy.

Long story short I kind of put it out of my mind after Friday and decided to just take a break from the computer. Sure I have work to do, taxes to get done, parties to plan, emails to catch up on but I welcomed the break. Sunday night Michael started to panic about what we were going to do. In his mind he was panicking about me being on his laptop. So we called best buy. Word of advice…the first 5 minutes are free so the fact that I was able to figure out a few things that could have been wrong saved us from getting charged. I was able to talk to the geeks about my computer in their language and they told me it wasn’t worth them doing a diagnostic. The motherboard likely failed.

CJ wanted to build us a new computer but that would mean no computer until the end of May. Not happening. We found a good deal and all I have to say is thank goodness for 18 month interest free financing. If only best buy sold designer purses. My husband will have holes in his shoes and we both wear our “uniforms” as we call our clothes because we wear the same things over and over—but take him to a best buy and he will buy.

Only thing that sucks is my LIFE is on my other computer. I have to start fresh. Up side? I now have a good external hard drive. I’m waiting for the case to come in the mail…all my photos, documents, etc still can’t be taken off of my computer so any notes for my 100 days project were on there.

100DaystilSummer1

Sorry about the pause in this! Hopefully you guys are cutting yourself some slack too, readying yourself to make the changes you WANT to make by summer. I know I am!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a requested post all about coconut oil and healthy fats!

For today…never underestimate yourself. You will never seize to amaze  if you really challenge yourself, have some confidence and test your limits. There are much more impressive things than almost fixing a computer {perfectly trying to}—your strong body, for example. Try something new…for me it was power yoga that challenged me physically more than anything else has in the past. And I rocked it a few months post baby when I still felt “weak” and a little “out of shape.” Also pushing through my HIIT training has amazed me how strong I’ve gotten. It’s helped me to actually run too. Something I always hated…no matter how young or in shape I was. Now I’m kind of doing it! Slowly, but it’s happening!

We can do anything.

Off to work. Talk tomorrow!

Oh girl, do you remember when that happened to me with MY computer (laptop). It happened in the middle of the worst part of my morning sickness which meant I literally (after taking a full month off to try and survive my life before this all happened)wouldn’t really get the prob fixed for an additional month (so that was a 2 month “mostly break”) I could still access things on my phone but it totally annoys me to navigate TOO many things from my phone. But I actually felt like it was a nice refreshing break from the computer and gave me my zest back. Plus, I got a new destop and I can not believe I used to do everything on a laptop all the time. Crazy. I love my huge screen. LOL It is seriously one of the most frustrating things ever though to have computer problems,. And it always costs a lot!
Talk about beautiful outside scenery there right now with all the colors on the trees!! I love this time of year. We don’t really have “seasons” here much. Just a slight variation in temps but if it is ever below 70 degrees everyone here is bundles up and freezing. Ha ha. So for us it is not a huge swing in seasons, but I bet there it is so nice and makes you love spirng that much more when you ahve been in cold winter for a while!
So for my little challnege for myself I really wanted to up my raw food intake (salads etc.) with pure grains served with or on the side to just eat clean, and to make sure I am having barley daily for a huge punch in greens. After being really sick and eating too many bland crackers, this is what I needed. I am making a big salad for dinner with organic greens, quinoa, tomatoes, cucumbers, avo’s, mangoes, jicama, cilantro, and I already made the dressing which is a fresh mango lime vinaigrette all from fresh goods. It is a spin off of my fave salad I get from Native Foods. I have been craving it and at about 10 bucks a salad, I figured I would whip up my own version and have it for several days for lunch. Yummy and healthy!

I know I missed you SO much during those months!!!!! Ugh the laptop gives me migraines. Literally. My neck and head can’t handle being on there!!!

It’s gorgeous here. Yes, I appreciate the seasons much more after going through a cold winter. Although it was pretty mild this year!

I love your challenge! And I want to come over for dinner! <3

Definitely with you on the trying something new thing! I just did that yesterday and ran my best marathon time since 2009. I’m also in the process of shaking things up career-wise… definitely outta my comfort zone there and not sure if anything will come of it, but it feels refreshing to be doing something.

Julie, that’s AMAZING!!!! Great job!!! I admire you and your running skills so much!

Best of luck with the career stuff too. I am doing the same thing…lots of changes that I need to make! Lots of stepping out of my comfort zone!

Ah, I know that feeling…the dead computer thing. It happened to me when I was working on my dissertation (stupid sony dead motherboard)….and then later with another computer. I actually thought briefly that I had lost every single picture I had of matthew from birth to age 3. Ugh.
I’m so with you–best buy should sell designer purses…I’d be all over that!

I guess a forced vacay from the ‘net is not so bad either. I’m lovin the Ella pics—especially the one of her pulling all the books onto the floor that you put on instagram. It just cracks me up—babies (ok, toddlers!) are just so busy!

I try new things a lot…and often I don’t stick to them, but I figure it’s better to keep trying and find some things that “fit” than never try anything!

Can’t wait for the coconut oil post—you know I’ll be a fan of that info!

Oh no!!! Wow….that is awful! Yea, a dead motherboard luckily is only that…hard drive usually safe!

Thanks..hahah…she is so funny! She’s been trying to get to that top shelf for her books and finally got to it! Growing WAY too fast! Toddler???No!!! She’s still my baby! 😉

My computer is about to crap out on me as well. My bigger laptop is about 5+ years old and I kinda hate my 1 yr old netbook. I’m on the lookout for a new one before I lose everything!

Isn’t it glorious to sit outside in the sun with your lil one? I love it and am going to miss it when I go back to work next week. Meep!

I just had to replace my computer too, I was going to get it through best buy but since I would have had to order what I wanted (Alienware) I ended up building one through dell which I ended up getting a better one for only $100 more due to mass taxes. I should hopefully have it soon, old one still works but can’t use any CDs so if something happens I’m screwed so I figured it was nearing 5 yrs so it was time to replace. I can’t wait to have a fast computer again, I also don’t care for laptops love my desktop guess I’m old school like that 😉

Yes 5 years, it is time! At least now you will get a new, faster computer! I guess having the upgraded version of what I had isn’t too bad 😉

BACK IT UP!!! I back up my computer every Saturday. Its my routine. I have heard too many horror stories, and my life is on that thing. I keep everything on my hard drive, external drive AND on dropbox – the cloud storage system. I highly recommend it – and its free up to a point.

I agree with your husband, those things are creepy. The ones around here are super aggressive and like to charge and stalk you. I’m also still traumatized from an incident from my childhood when a swarm of geese pecked a bag of bread out of my hands. Lunatics.
