3D Belly

Thanks for all of your well wishes yesterday on the ultrasound appointment!!! It went really well! The doctor said that the baby was looking really healthy, growing right on schedule. He also said that everything looked great!Β  They check the brain, the spine, the heart, lungs, the blood flow, and all the extremities. All checked out good πŸ™‚

It was crazy seeing it all! At first, it was REALLY hard to tell what we were looking at, then he gave us some shots where we could see that it was actually a baby, LOL.

In the past few months, I have had several people ask me about sharing my ultrasound pictures. I have to admit, at first I was unsure if I wanted to post them. I felt weird…not because I was uncomfortable with it necessarily, but not sure if it’s something everyone wants to see. I have heard many people say they thought it was “creepy” when people posted them on facebook. I really don’t care either way if people post them or not, but I wouldn’t (on there). However, my blog is not facebook. People read my blog that want to follow what’s happening in my life, and all the healthy tips and other Shenanigans that go on here. On facebook I have however many friends, and I am not keen on sharing every intimate detail with them. That is also why I have a separate page for my blog on facebook and rarely EVER post my blog posts on my main facebook page (only on The Fitness Dish’s FB page), so those “friends” that are interested in moreΒ  can “like” my page, if they don’t they they don’t get the goods πŸ˜‰ .Β  With that being said, I decided that I WILL share a sneak peek at baby Raiken with my readers…just because He/She is so gorgeous so far and I am just so excited!!!

I do not own a scanner…so this is a picture of a picture taken on my cell phone. You may not be able to tell, but the babes looks just like me πŸ˜‰

Tuesday nights are usually my night to cook solo, while Michael goes out to eat with his mom. However, I was really craving this AMAZING salad from the place they were going…and it was 19 degrees here yesterday (making me not motivated to do anything), I cooked on Monday night (gave in and made brown rice fajitas– I withheld them from M for 2 weeks, lol), so I decided to join them. It was also a kind of ‘celebrate seeing the baby’ kind of thing for M & I.

We went to The Chestnut Hill Grill

I got aΒ  “healthy baby”-oriented meal:

Roasted Pear Salad with Fennel, Walnuts and Goats Cheese it a light citrus vinaigrette

Fennel is a great source of folic acid, also provides calcium, iron, potassium and Vitamin C. The greens and walnuts are also loaded with health benefits πŸ™‚

The salad is TO DIE FOR!!! Loving the roasted pears. This is something I plan on re-creating at home very soon!

Last time I got the entree portion of this, and a soup. They didn’t have any healthy soups I liked, so I went with this for the starter and had this for my entree:

Grilled Salmon over a bed of Lentils topped with cooked Leeks

Salmon is loaded with protein and baby brain food-Omega 3 Fatty Acids and DHA. Lentils are also a great source of protein (8 complete amino acids), loaded with other great nutrients (Vitamin C, and B Vitamins), and are loaded with anti-oxidants. Lentils are something I eat often since my diet is MOSTLY plant based (I ONLY do fish occasionally, and have goats cheese even less occasionally, because it’s so good and doesn’t effect me like dairy cheese does). Leeks are also a super food for pregnant women!

The other half of the salmon will be finished today for lunch πŸ™‚

Hamstring Curl w/ Chest Press

Targets chest, core, glutes, and hamstrings

Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie faceup on the floor with your calves on a stability ball. Straighten your arms and hold the dumbbells above your chest, palms facing your knees, and raise your hips to form a straight line from shoulders to feet. Bend your knees to roll the ball toward your butt, while lowering the dumbbells to your chest. Reverse the movement to return to start. That’s one rep. Do 15. (If you lose balance during part B, do the exercise as two movements: First pull the ball toward you, then do the press.)

Are there any restaurants you feel you can get a “healthy meal”, that you love?

–I understand there are risks going out to eat, not being able to control all the ingredients–but sometimes, you can tell the good verse the bad depending on how “clean” the dish is….there are a lot of dishes that may seem healthy that are not, which can get us into trouble. –(People with food allergies have to deal with aΒ  whole different issue on this question).

    Baby Raiken is looking good!!! Wow that must have been so exciting for you and Michael. Delighted that the doctor is happy with baby’s progress. That pear salad looks wonderful!!! I try and eat well when I go out to eat. I love pizza and there is a healthy version of the pizza where they give you a pizza ring (cut out most of the dough) and fill the centre with salad. Tasty.

    Glad to hear all checked out well for baby!! That is great news!! I’m not sure how I feel about the baby ultrasound pics…I guess it doesn’t bother me either way!

    As for eating out, I used to be super anal about everything when I had an ED but in order to over come that I had to allow ALL foods and that included french fries. anymore I am not picky when I go out to eat. I try my best to order as healthy as I can, asking about ingredients, but I don’t eat out that much so when I do, I just eat whatever sounds best, and sometimes that means fries or dessert πŸ™‚

      It changed from my ED days, A LOT, but now that I am preggo I am more anal for different reasons….everything I put in my bod effects the baby, so I gotta make sure I eat accordingly!

    Awwww….look at your little baby! All that juicing is doign some good it looks like! As far as eating out goes…A few things I like are just plain old veggies sandwiches, vegan shipotle salads (I get it with NO white rice, and with beans peppers and onions, and extra pico) , so good! πŸ™‚ I also have a personal facebook page and a little house of veggies facebook page that are sepeprate and give me some privacy. I need that . πŸ™‚

    Hey Laury, thanks so much for the comment on my last post πŸ™‚ Good news, my phone was turned in! Oh my goodness, that baby photo is amazing! I can’t imagine how excited you must be to actually see the baby growing inside of you.
    As for your question on eating out, I have become really good at finding healthy options at restaurants! I always look for the term “grilled” for my meats and order sauces and cheese on the side so I can add them at my own taste. Have a fantabulous day girl.

    i love the pic you shared but i agree there are some things just not fit for public consumption…and I do share a few photos on my FB that i dont share on my blog but i also realize that i have 500 “friends” on FB, some of whom know me ONLY from my blog so i am still…cautious…on there too. Plus once posted, you can never take it back. It can “get out” and be copy/pasted everywhere.

    Salmon, such a powerful food. When i was pregnant was the only time in my lifetime i have ever CRAVED salmon. So i ate it πŸ™‚

    glad to hear the appt went well πŸ™‚ i’m pretty open on my blog but i don’t link my stuff onto the facebook page necessarily. i feel like if my FB friends find my blog in my info and wander over there they might found out something they didn’t know. otherwise, i just leave it to the luck of the draw. i’m not really that private of a person i guess.

    Wow..that picture is so detailed!! So exciting!!
    I do share different things on my facebook vs the blog. I have facebook basically to keep in contact with my huge family so I wouldn’t want to share everything about my family on the blog.
    I do have to say I love seeing the ultrasound pictures from anyone!
    There are certain restaurants that I know I can get a great meal and not feel gross..but sometimes it’s nice to try some place new..although I usually pay for it in the end( crap ingredients makes my stomach unhappy!)

    Wow, those dishes look awesome! I’ve never roasted apples or pears and definitely want to try them sometime, but I have no idea how to do it…guess I just need to jump in and try!

    The baby looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing it! And I think that what you share and how much you share are entirely up to you. Everyone is different πŸ™‚ and there is no wrong way to handle things….well I guess there could be, but I think when it comes to this, you have to do what you feel is best.

    I definitely share different things on my blog than on my facebook for exactly the reason you stated. I know people who read my blog want to know what’s on my mind or what I think about the latest fitness trend. Which is also why I think it’s ok to post ultrasound pictures on your blog if you want to. We want to hear about the exciting things happening with your little one!! Congrats, and I think he/she is beautiful! πŸ™‚

    Awww, how sweet. I love that you took a pic of the pic. I have a scanner but never use it since I have crap piled on top of it and am lazy like that.

    I share more on my blog than FB. Alot of my family and co-workers are on FB and even though I have some that can’t see all my stuff, I feel better about sharing more on my blog since Im sure everyone doesnt want to see my meals, workouts, weight issues, etc.

    Your baby is so cute! I most likely will never post pics of my ultrasounds because it is so personal to me! But I still love seeing them! I don’t even have my blog on FB anymore!!!! I tell folks when they ask, but seriously… You sound so excited about your baby! I love it!

    I’ve always had this question about pregnancy eating – you always read you’re supposed to have about 300 or so extra calories a day when you’re pregnant (so not eating for two). But I was wondering, do you know if this is 300 calories consistently throughout the course of the pregnancy, or less in the beginning and more per day at the end? Thanks!

      During the 1st trimester you pretty much eat the same. Most women are so nauseous that they don’t have much of an appetite so it’s a challenge getting enough nutrition in. I made sure to take a sublingual B6/B12 with Folic acid first thing in the AM since it was small and I knew I was at least getting that in. Also green smoothies with ginger root. During the 2nd trimester is when you should eat about 300 more calories per day. I do this just by adding snacks, juicing or healthy smoothies. During the 3rd trimester they say your appetite really increases so have about 300-500 calories more depending on how the course of your weight gain is going. It also depends on the woman…if you are underweight to start, you want to make even more of a conscious effort to eat more, if you are overweight, it can be dangerous if you gain too much more during pregnancy so you may need to be careful about the extra calories and weight gain! That is the general advice, of course every pregnant women should speak to her doctor about her weight gain and eating!

    The restaurants where I feel like I’m having a “healthy meal” are mostly those that make sandwiches full of veggies or salads without tons of dressing ;).
    Better than some greasy pizza :P.
